I received the following from Daren Dillinger's daughter a short while ago as to the date and time for a memorial service for Daren. I know that some may not be able to attend because of distance, but will have wanted to know the details of the service nonetheless. It is Monday evening next week (26th), 6:30 PM.
I am planning on personally being there. Hopefully, there will be many of the local players that knew Daren through the years who will be present as well.
Please feel free to pass this on to any players that would have known Daren.
On Behalf of Daren, Thank you;
Dr Don Miller
Jacksonville Chess Club Treasurer

Daren was a wonderful person and one hell of a chess player. I am really sad to learn of his passing. I will never forget those Saturday and Wednesday evenings at the chess club battling it out against his Smith-Morra gambet or Roy Lopez. Some of the combinations he would come up with just blew my mind! No matter how hard I tried to turn the game into a boring clinical end game he always managed a way to make the game interesting, and often deadly, by an incredibly creative sacrifice. I will always cherish those memories of him kicking my ass accross the chesboard, but I will cherish the ones more of when I got the better of him :) What a great person and father, chess player, journalist, and puzzle creater you were Darren. If anyone has Jason or Billy's email please let them know. Chad |
